New electric engine for bike application

"Piaggio inaugurates a new way of experiencing the bicycle: the new electric propulsion unit - fully designed and manufactured by Piaggio in Italy - integrated on pedal axis, coupled with 400 Wh lithium-ion battery. These elements are controlled by a highly evolved propulsion management system interfaced to the functions of a special APP developed for iOS and Android platforms, that lets you use the bicycle both as a vehicle for urban commuting and leisure time, both as a very sophisticated and advanced tool for fitness.

The engine, designed around the axis of the pedal and very compact size, has 250W limited power, but can reach up to 350W maximum power; it is capable to manage 50, 60 or 80 Nm maximum torque, value that guarantees great responsiveness in every situation. The management system is equipped with torque sensor and allows an operating sweetness at the top of the category, together with many pedaling assistance levels in relation to path and/or torque required by the user.

The management system is distinguished by the high level of safety: the control units, integrated into the dashboard, into the battery and into the electric motor are connected by a unique code and can work only if connected and dialoguing with one other. Furthermore, the battery is equipped with a GPS / GSM module that works both as satellite alarm, as data transmission element from the battery toward the smartphone. This makes it possible to locate the vehicle at any time and check by remote the battery charging status.
As optional, instead of chain and mechanical gearshift manually controlled, it is possible to get transmission belt coupled with Nuvinci CVT, controlled by engine management system.
